"A Careless Word" WWII OWI #23 Home Front Poster by John Carlton Atherton (1943)

Celebrated poster shows a grave marker draped with an ammo belt and helmet – evidence of the deadly consequences of careless talk. One of three posters issued by the Office of War Information selected from a group of 200 prize winning war posters that were exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in late 1942. The posters on exhibition were chosen from over 2200 designs entered in a contest sponsored by 26 arts organizations under the banner “Artists for Victory.”

Condition: Very Good

Rolled. Linen backed and restored. Minor restoration was done to address small pinholes in corners. Poster still has very minor wear on vertical fold line. Exquisite poster with strong ink colors.
