"Register June 5th" WWI Uncle Sam Military Draft Poster by Arthur William Colen (1917)

"Register June 5th" WWI Uncle Sam Military Draft Poster by Arthur William Colen (1917)

After a national volunteer recruitment drive only attracted a fraction of the 1,000,000 troops considered necessary for overseas service, Congress quickly approved the Selective Service Act of 1917, which instituted a national draft. June 5th was designated National Registration Day, and all male Americans between the ages of 21 and 31 were required to register for military service.

Size*: 22.75" x 35.25"
Condition: Very Good

Rolled. Linen backed. The poster was never folded. It had a few creases and small tears around the edges. No restoration was done per say, but folds were smoothed out. Thin linen material. A truly stunning poster and one of our favorites.
